Kinja'd!!!

And people call these things cute. I hate them. SO. MUCH.

EDIT: There appears to be a hub-bub about me not liking deer. So I will say this, don't take this seriously, or so help me, I will find you and I will kill you. Are they the stupidest animal ever? No. That honor goes to cows(this btw is also a joke). I am not sure which post made me come off as a very serious person. Made it was me posting a picture of an Indian rapper and claiming it was me. Or the one about how I get da ladies with my exhaust note. Either way, you want to die? Take this seriously.

1. Pull out shotgun from behind the bar

2. Put venison burgers on the weekly specials menu

3. Profit

I think you're completely misunderstanding what's going on in that animal's head. They're smart for their environment. They don't understand human environments. Human environments are completely unnatural to them. This animal became confused and excited, as well as terrified. In it's haste to escape the situation it was trying desperately to get up and leave on a surface completely ill suited to providing traction to the hard hooves this animal has.

I take it you're not an animal person. What a shame.

A GP car is amazingly fast and agile on the track. On the grass, it becomes a panic-stricken contraption ill suited for the surface. Much the same can be said of this; in the right setting a deer (and this is one impressive fellah) is a master of its environment but that environment little extends to the pub scene.

I am not not an animal person. I feel like you are looking far to into this post. I just don't like deer. For two reason. They damage our house all the time because they run straight into it in broad daylight and they don't understand getting out of the way of moving cars, something squirrels understand.

I don't know. I live near the woods, and they don't help their case much either! So much so, that my neighbors brought out the guns to deal with the issue. Then the police came and told them they can't hunt yet.

In a sense you're the intruder in their home basically, it's not something unexpected. They are not doing it on purpose of course, but it's something you have to live with I guess. "You" damaged their turf by having a house there, they are damaging yours by "not respecting boundaries", so let's call it even.

It's almost like moving to an area that's being flooded each year and then complain about nature trespassing your gates. Only animals could potentially learn to avoid contacts such this, but there are always new ones coming, learning it the hard way - just as it is not the same water that floods your house.

As for roads: read a bit on e.g. why there are far more cat-roadkills than dogs.

On the gif:

I mean look at big city people - how agitated they can be in nature. Every little bug is a fierce enemy, everything's haunting. They react the same way upon encountering something unexpected. I guess there weren't enough FAIL videos made on people panicking because of spiders or snakes.

Funnily enough though, we have other wild animals as well, like coyotes, and foxes, and we have repeatedly witnessed deer doing stupid things. Like one running and crashing into our decoration fountain dealo(I don't know what it is called). Or another hitting our garage so hard it left a nice dent in it. The deer population is so out of control in our city and they cause so many problems we have hunting season to cut numbers down!

Yes, I know we are in their enviroment. I still don't like them.

Different behaviour of predators and preys. "Preys" living in your area happen to be deer, but most "preys" would react the same way as this deer on the gif, only it's a pretty large one, causing substantial damage. A squirrel running around wouldn't have caused much trouble, but would have been equally in panic.

I don't think you understand why I hate them or think they are stupid. I hate them cause they destroy my family's stuff. Yes, I know we are in "their" land(although techincally speaking humans need a place to live to so if you think about it we are sharing it with them, with most of it going to us hehehehe). But most of the time when this stuff happens we aren't even outside(besides that fountain incident). It is them on their own merits.

Kinja'd!!! Gabor Vajda (@Gabor_V) > YSI-what can brown do for you
05/01/2014 at 03:15

I can only repeat myself: they not doing it on purpose, you cannot expect them to behave as your children or your pet dog who you well educated on the "do"s and "don't"s and expect them to follow some rules and get accounted for their actions.

You can hate deer - you are free to do so - but you can't expect them to behave according to some common social pattern people made up.

Over the top is what I do, and just how I roll. I honestly don't feel like proving how smart I may or may not be, and most of my posts are very serious(usually dealing with car parts or exhaust notes). I am not sure what gave a serious tone in this one. It must have been my excellent argument. . .or the lack of it. Either way, I may be ignorant or I may be not, but over a post on a deer running isn't the best place to decide.

Kinja'd!!! YSI-what can brown do for you > Gabor Vajda (@Gabor_V)

I know they aren't doing it on purpose. Not even a human would want to throw themselves into a fence on purpose. . . for the most part. It is the same reason that some people hate cats. Cats acts according to their own rules and those rules may make people hate them or love them. I for one hate the ways deer act around my house even if I am intruding.

I hit a deer with my car at 3am new years day last year. Broke my grille, my corner light, and cracked my header panel. I was doing 25 down a residential street with rows of parked cars on each side and right as I was about to pass an SUV, a small fawn jumped out right in front of me and my car sent it flying about 15 feet. It went flopping around on the ground then got up and ran off into someones back yard.

So I agree, fuck deer. (Not literally)

I think people that haven't dealt with deer don't realize how much of a pain they really are. Both my parents are fairly careful drivers, and still both have hit a deer. I haven't, and hopefully never will.

Why don't more people eat deer? I have heard it tastes pretty good. It isn't like their intelligence is a reason why. We eat pigs and they are very smart animals.

I shoot them and eat them. They are tasty in the same way that baby cows are tasty. Having said that, if a deer really doesn't want to be found in the forest, it's pretty hard to find. Here in Australia they are a pest species, but the government recently closed the open season on most deer species except sambar, chital and rusa, which can be hunted year round.

Which reminds me, it's currently deer season here... Time to go find some venison.

Seriously. A fully grown and mature buck is about as dangerous to hit with a car as an elk or a moose. I've watched people go to hospital because a deer decided to run in front of their car at night at 30-35 MPH. You cannot see them, and cannot avoid them either when they dash out in front of your car.

Thre are too many where I live, and they need to be culled before someone dies in an accident.

Depends on how you make it. As jerkey, better than beef. As a roast, I prefer beef.
